ABOUT THE CLASS

This class helps children use Russian as a living language for talking about themselves and the world around them. The focus is on practical conversation, listening comprehension, vocabulary development and learning to express ideas clearly and confidently in Russian.

The class incorporates the Russian-language educational textbook “Росинка. Окружающий мир 2”, which provides a structured foundation for exploring age-appropriate topics while developing language skills.

Students discuss themes connected with nature, seasons, plants and animals, the human body and health, family and society, professions, transportation, our environment and other aspects of the world around us. Through these topics, children expand both their knowledge and the Russian vocabulary needed to describe, explain, compare and discuss what they learn.

As vocabulary grows, students are encouraged to move beyond short answers and formulate more complete and detailed thoughts in Russian. They learn to explain what they know, make observations, establish connections and participate actively in discussion.

HOW WE LEARN

The class combines structured work with “Росинка. Окружающий мир 2” with thematic conversations, questions, descriptions, educational activities and discussion.

Students work with the textbook and related learning materials, read and discuss age-appropriate information, answer questions, describe what they observe, compare objects and phenomena and learn to explain connections in Russian.

New vocabulary is introduced within each topic and then actively used in conversation and classroom activities, helping children understand and remember words in meaningful context.

The goal is not simply to learn new vocabulary, but to help children use Russian to learn about, understand and discuss the world around them.
